I write this note in defence of children and childhood. Please read it with an open mind and heart. I feel that childhood for yet once more in human history is under attack.
People say that kids today are:
Entitled
Disrespectful
Lazy
Rude
I say that the people who say these things are:
Arrogant
Disrespectful
Judgmental
Unfair
They have forgotten how it was to be a child and they expect children to be little adults or even better than adults. They are arrogant because they think they were better when children themselves, they are disrespectful to the younger generations, they are judgmental because they judge and condemn and they are unfair because most of what they think is based on exaggerations and most kids aren’t that way. The truth is that kids have not changed, each child is different and generalizations are bad.
The truth is that kids:
ARE ENTITLED TO: Love, care, protection, education, clothing, shelter, medical care and EVERYTHING that God ordered parents to provide their children with.
NEED: Play, rest and free time that workaholic adults consider “lazy”.
The truth is that kids:
Are not mini adults. Thus expecting them to act like adults is unfair.
Aren’t more mature than adults. Thus expecting from them attitudes and behaviours that we wouldn’t expect from adults is crazy! Yet many of us do just that. We expect the immature child to be more mature than the adult [!]
The truth is that kids:
Copy our examples. Thus if we are rude they will also be.
Do what we allow them to do. Thus if we allow them to be disrespectful they will. Its not their fault, its ours!
If you love children I think you should consider seriously changing the way you think about them instead look at them as gifts from God. Stop sharing memes and articles that disrespect them, over generalize or plainly insult them for being what they are ie children. Ignore the so called “experts” and instead PRAY, study HOLY SCRIPTURE and seek the LEADING of God our Great Parent in raising them. Learn that love and kindness are POWERFUL, stop judging them all the time... take the time to listen to them and consider their feelings. Remember if you have children you are BLESSED many of us aren’t so blessed.
